There's a very good reason why Wicked has had sold out shows since 2003. It's an absolutely spectacular show!
I revisited Wicked this year, and I found it just as enchanting as the first time I saw it and heard Idina Menzel proclaim that she would defy gravity.Well, Wicked the musical has defied the test of time. The score and lyrics are beautiful, catchy and memorable. The staging is just as magical as the colorful world we watched Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion skip through in the Wizard of OZ.
Even though Wicked is based on a book with the same title, you don't need to have read it, or even to have seen the Wizard of OZ, to enjoy this stage production. Wicked the Musical stands up firmly on its own.
It's a wonderful show that can be enjoyed by Adults and Children alike and actually has some very up-to-date life lessons built in. Without at all be preachy, beautiful music and clever lyrics expound on the fact that skin color doesn't matter, being popular is not at all important, and things aren't always as they appear.
If this is your first Broadway show or perhaps you're bringing a young one to see a show for the first time, Wicked is an excellent choice. Its funny, brilliantly musical and well....it's magical.
